News/Blog
Happy new year, everyone! We are very excited about 2010, and hope you are too.
Media Boomtown started the year off by heading to the WARM-103 Wedding Wonderland bridal expo in York. We had a lot of interest in our wedding videos, and met a lot of wonderful couples who are about to tie the knot.
We also started a series of instructional videos for the Professor Garfield Foundation. That’s a non-profit website started by Garfield creator Jim Davis. Its goal is to provide a fun, interactive portal for kids to learn about creativity. Mr. Davis was impressed with our documentary, “Pure Imagination”, and wanted us to make him some videos for his website. The first one is up now, and you can see it by going to www.professorgarfield.org, going to “art-bot”, then going to “comics lab extreme”, then going to “videos”, and choosing the video that says “Jimmy Gownley”. Yep, the video features our friend, the ever-talented creator of the Amelia Rules! graphic novel series. More videos for Professor Garfield will be coming soon, and will be in the same location.
Last, but certainly not least, Media Boomtown plans to do some more work with local musicians. We are helping to promote the local scene with effective, quality stories and recordings. If you’re in a band, we’d love to talk to you and see what we can do for you.
We hope that you had a great summer. We were quite busy. There are a million different stories here in the Boomtown, and we wasted no time jumping in and starting to tell a few.
First we started spreading the word about the working mothers who took the initiative to create a new, environmentally-friendly hair product line. Danu launched in August, and the creators had a brief, effective “about us” video and demonstration to help introduce themselves and stimulate sales.
In September, we premiered our educational documentary “Pure Imagination: The Secrets of Comics Creation” at the Midtown Cinema in Harrisburg, PA. We had about 80 curious kids and parents come to this interactive morning. Harold Buchholz (the creator of “Apathy Kat” comics) and Jimmy Gownley (the creator of “Amelia Rules!”) were both on hand. They shared examples of their artwork and discussed how they create it. Then, after the film screening, they answered questions and led the group through a really cool brainstorming workshop. Together the children and the artists created a whole new character out of thin air. It was a really fun event for young, curious and hungry artists.
We sent a copy of “Pure Imagination” to Jim Davis; you know, the creator “Garfield”. He really enjoyed it, and thought so highly of it that he gave us this quote:
I grew up loving comics and comic books. I remember impatiently waiting to get hands on the Sunday funnies so I could read the latest adventures of Steve Canyon, a beautifully crafted strip by Milton Caniff. Through the magic of his pen, I imagined fabulous places far beyond the borders of Fairmount, Indiana.
Creating a comic strip requires perseverance, determination, and imagination. It would have been nice to have seen a video like Pure Imagination, The Secrets of Comics Creation when I was young. Hopefully this video will inspire others to explore and develop an interest in comics and graphic novels.
Most recently, we’ve been eating wedding cake and dancing. When doing a wedding video, one has to keep the end user in mind. While the newlyweds may not mind fast-forwarding through hours of shaky video that doesn’t show anything, helpless family and friends will not be so patient. We gave Meredith Leeson and Adam Swartzendruber the royal treatment with a documentary-styled video. After interviewing the couple on-camera, we crafted a customized story of their wedding day. It set the scene, disclosed how they met and how they feel about becoming man and wife. Touching and concise. It’s already become a big hit, and we’ve started booking dates in our 2010 calendar, including a wedding in PUERTO RICO!

Greetings from Media Boomtown!
Thanks for dropping by. We’ll be updating things here frequently, so check back often to see what’s cookin’.
While this website is new, Media Boomtown has been around since 2007. We were only really a word-of-mouth hobby company then, but we’ve cranked out some cool stuff. Check out our “Boomtown TV” page for videos of past productions.
Here are some of the things in the works right now:
Providing producer-editor skills for another production company in the area (Yeah, we play well with others). We’re assisting them in putting on a rockin’ awards show for a local trade association this September.
Working with a local arts promoter to help champion the arts community around Central PA.
Planning our big coming out party in September. Stay tuned for info on the “Pure Imagination Premiere” also coming in September.
Recently, we’ve also helped the wonderful ladies of Danu Hair Care in Carlisle, PA with a contest entry video; demonstrating their product at work. Now we’ll be making their website “about us” video, too.
Enough about us. What about you? What do you want to do? Is there anything you’d like to make? We love doing this stuff, so we’d be glad to help out in any way we can. See our “Services” page to get an idea of how Media Boomtown can work for you. Send us an e-mail, and let’s go make some cool stuff!
